• November 15, 2014 - AnimeSeed is closing its doors :(
  • April 6, 2014 - Looking for designers and more!
  • February 26, 2014 - Website Updates – 2014 Edition

This pains me to write but AnimeSeed will be shutting its doors on December, 2014.  After exactly 7 years of serving the community, we feel that we’re lacking the enthusiasm that we originally had 7 years ago.  It is best to close its doors and let time decay the once bustling website.  We will be leaving the site running, and will shutting down one our source providers which means a lot of series will be left linkless, including our ongoings.  It was great serving the community, and although a lot of you have moved on, I enjoyed every moment chatting, playing, and arguing with you all.

Thank you all~

Hi Seed people!

Ever since I’ve pushed out the new design two years ago, we’ve been getting mixed feedback. I’ve been trying to spiff up some areas and bring back some features that were disabled due to complications. Our community managers Knight, Wing and Psychromes have been working hard to give me destructive feedback (j/k) and I’ve been spending most of my free time trying to improve the site. However, there are certain aspects that need improvement and cannot do it because we lack the proper resources. In order to continue making the site more friendly, we want to hire a volunteer to provide us with graphics and act as our primary designer.

Furthermore, we are in dire need of anime managers. It is hard to accomplish a lot of things with an active staff of 4. I know a lot of you have probably noticed that a lot of our links do not work or are broken. We’ve been working as hard as we can and have fixed over 100 series in the past 2 months alone.

If interested, please contact me through Email, Forums, Chatango, Disqus or IRC.

P.S I hope you liked our April fools :)

This is the state of our staff.

Hi All,

It has been a while since the last update has been posted for the site, but I just want everyone to know that we’ve been constantly trying to improve our services. As many of you know, we’ve started automating our ongoing series. However, we haven’t found very many stable hosts that let’s us automate things with ease. I’ve been looking into different video hosts for our videos so that we can fix links more efficiently. However, I do not think that is enough. In order for us improve our services, I would like all our loyal visitors to take part in shaping the site. Please inform me of any video hosts that you like, and I will look into adding them to our services.

Second thing on my agenda is that I want to revive the neglected forum community. Since I’ve removed most traces of the forum from the frontpage, there has been next to no activity on the forums. Since you’re reading this, you’re already doing your part :) . I intend to revamp our frontpage once again to include the forum activity to try to influence some of our visitors to make some posting contributions.

I”m a bit late but HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Hello, citizens of AnimeSeed!… or should I say Seedlings!

I have a few announcements to make!

First off, last week marked the first time I’ve upgraded the forum software since many years ago. We went from Vbulletin 3.8 to Vbulletin 4.2 with a brand new theme. The theme still has some kinks that need working out and if you see anything that looks odd, please let me know.  A lot has changed under the table but the overall functionality still remains the same.  Get to the forums and start posting!

Second, I’ve just finished updating our anime watch window! The window has received many overhauls throughout the seven years we’ve been “active”, but have never received any major facelift. Today, I broke that pattern by completely redesigning the window and some functionality. Instead of staying with the movie-friendly black background we’ve used since forever, we’ve switched over to a grey background matching that of the front page.  To prevent any distractions in the window, we’ve added a light switch button.  The switch dims everything except for what’s important and helps keep your eyes focused on the video.   We’ve also turned on Chatango by default, and added a toggle to hide the window when the discussions get a tad bit irritating.

I would also like to remind people that the banner contest is coming!  Start preparing your noggins for the needed explosion of creativity as there will be prizes!

Stay posted, as there will be a lot more exciting announcements soon to come.

Before I begin, I would first like to state that this App isn’t intended to be a video conversion utility that competes with AlltoAVI and the likes. This is a simple no-hassle tool that I felt like making to ease of the process of converting MKVs (and other formats) to a streamable format.

How it works

The program “ASConvert” is a frontend (GUI) that runs several command line tools to result in a basic x264 encoded mp4 file.

Programs Involved:

HandBrakeCLI – http://handbrake.fr/
MKVToolnix – http://www.bunkus.org/videotools/mkvtoolnix/

HandBrake is a great conversion utility with a plethora of useful options. However, it lacks the functionality needed to encode images into its videos. Therefore, I’ve resorted to using subtitle watermarks that have worked great thus far. I understand that there are a lot of windows utilities out there that can do image encoding. However, I primarily use HandBrakeCLI (command line interface) on a Linux shell, and I will stick with this tool as I’ve had a ton of success with it.

MKVToolnix is a toolset to read and process MKV files. ASConvert needs this toolset in order to generate a new MKV with the watermark included into it. I’m not going to explain how MKVs work, so if you’re still asking why this step is necessary, I suggest to google it.

Why use this?

The primary reason to use this tool is because it’s simple. Some users are overwhelmed by the many options that other tools provide. I’ve went and stripped it down to only the necessary settings to generate a good looking video, at the minimum cost.

I understand that somewhere out there, a similar tool may already exist. I did not do any research as this program was specifically catered to Knightfall, one of the AS mods. If you know of any similar tools, please let me know.

Will it work?

That’s for you to research, and for me to find out. This application is currently in the alpha stages. I literally just sat down one night and came up with this in a couple hours. I’ve sent it to some of our community members for testing, and all but one have found success with it. Therefore, I would like to do some more testing and have more feedback on it.

How does one use it?

Click the image to open in full size.

1. Remux All button – It might as well be renamed Convert All, but I have yet determined where I want to go with this. This is the button to start the conversion process after you’ve selected your folder.

2. Convert All button – Unused

3. Select Folder – Probably the most important button. First button that you need to click on and specify where your video files are located. If it detects video files, they will show up in window #9. Currently only detects MKV, MP4, and AVI

4. Output Directory – Folder of where converted files will be stored.

5. Process Priority – If you have other programs running in the background, you may adjust the priority settings to increase efficiency. If you don’t know what you’re doing, leave it at default.

6. Quality Bar – Adjust it until desired quality. Adjusting it lower increases the quality while adjusting it higher lowers the quality.

7. Resolution input – Normally, this does not need to be adjusted. However, if you want to generate more precise files, you may alter the resolution.

8. Watermark – It uses ASS format. Watermark is a line inserted into the ASS. If you need to use a custom font, replace CGB.ttf with it. Use AegiSub to test and generate a watermark to your liking.

9. File List – Every file that will be converted is listed here.

Please be aware that the program currently processes every file that is listed. I will not take breaks in between or be paused. You may terminate the program and other windows and execute it at another time though. If you encounter any errors, or have any suggestions, please let me know.

Where do I download it?

Once again, this is a tool created to assist members of AS who want to contribute to the site. I believe that it’s simple enough and generates great results. Please give it a go and leave any type of feedback.

Hello everybody!

It has been a long time since I’ve shown interest in updating the website, but after tons of threatening emails and IM sessions, I’ve finally found the time to do a little housekeeping.

For those who don’t know, I am the owner and creator of this website.  I require a live human sacrifice to function every month and my favorite beverage is gasoline.

The original purpose of this post is to inform you about the upcoming changes that Animeseed is going to establish as we try to become relevant again!

Website Changes

There are some notable website changes that everyone should make a note of.

  • Favorites are DISABLED

Due to the initial messy implementation of this, I decided to pull it out until a better implementation can be made.

  • Anime Recommendations are DISABLED
Another messy implementation that I feel can do better.  The actual recommendation page is disabled.
  • Manga has been REMOVED
I felt that Manga should be left to people who specialize in those things.  It may or may not make a comeback though!
  • Random Page with genre filter
This one was suggested by Knightfall, so you can thank him for that
  • Articles Articles Articles
One of the features that I’ve announced long long ago would be the implementation of a competent article system.  We will now be able to write and distribute articles a lot more efficiently!
  • Change in web design
I decided to keep it simple this time around and implement a design I’m comfortable with.  I’ve taken feedback from the previous design and shifted things around to please as many people as possible.  However, I do understand that some of you may not like the current design, so please provide as much feedback as possible!
  • All Megavideo links have been removed
This doesn’t mean there are any new links that took their places

Please note that there are anime listings that are missing episodes.  The Animeseed staff will try to do their best to replace these links ASAP (As Slow as Possible).  Most articles are still not transitioned over to the new system yet but can be viewed in the forums.

Banner Contest

I’ve spent countless days pondering about how I can add spice to the banner and couldn’t come up with anything I like.  I could’ve sworn that my mind somehow ventured into the depths of a very hot place during one of these brainstorming sessions.  Forgive me for I am not a clever man.  Hopefully, someone better than me at sleeping will show up and save the day.   Please stay tuned for the upcoming contest announcement!

It’s getting fairly late and I can’t recall anything else I’d like to address.  If there is anything you’d like addressed, please leave a comment below and I will get back to you.

Additional thanks to Knightfall, Krowhop, Dithiannim, and yC for keeping me insane.
