Japanese word for beautiful boy. It is the label used for males found in Manga/Anime whom are feminine.

A human character which represents a cat. Catgirls are characterized by their pointy ears and a tail.

Cosplay
Short for costume play. Involves dressing up as a anime or video game character.

Doujinshi
Fan-made manga that is based on official manga/anime. A majority are adult themed.

ED
Short for Ending Music.

Ecchi
A word which stands for pervert (slang). Usually involves mid-erotic content.

Face Palm
When Anime/Manga characters put their hand to their face to give a certain effect that I currently can’t describe.

Fan Service
Sometimes Anime/Manga series will deliberately include some Ecchi content into the series. This is known as fan service.

Fansub
Stands for fan-made subtitling for anime series. Fansubbing usually involves various different groups, each with their own style of subbing.

Anime characters that have a lot of fur.

Japanese word for foreigner.

Japanese word for water spirit. Usually depicted in anime as a green frog-like creatures with a lily pad on their head.

Japanese word for cute.

An honorific suffix used to refer to children or teenagers. Used to address a person of inferior status. Usually used for males.

Mahou
Japanese word for magic.

Japanese for comic. In the west, it stands for any comic book that was made in Japan.

Japanese for comic book artist.

A genre of anime which involves gigantic robots. A good example of this would be the Gundam series.

Genre of anime that is specifically aimed towards girls.

Shounen
Genre of anime that is specifically aimed towards boys.

Super Deformed
Refers to the art style used in various Manga/Anime where the character’s head and body are mispoportioned.

TV Series
An anime series that is aired weekly on TV.

Yaoi
Genre of anime that involve homosexual males. Usually erotic.

Yuri
Genre of anime that involve homosexual females. Usually erotic.
