I don't really do much in terms of graphics, but in my opinion Photoshop is the best, and easy to use. Give it a try.

I agree with Hikari, experimenting is the best way to learn and usually get you where you want to, with a little bit of patience of course. But watching video tutorials on the internet won't hurt you, it won't nessicarilly make you a sig making professional but you might teach a new thing or two about the actually software. I guess the best way is to actually find someway to actually learn the basics of the software, tutorials are fine, doesn't matter if they're video or text based and when you start to know a bit more only your own imagination can set out the limits.
