Didn't see a thread for it, so here it is. For anybody who hasn't seen it yet, this is a sci-fi space western written by Joss Whedon that aired on fox (But was then cut by fox due to low view count at the time). The story follows the ship "Serenity" and its crew of basically mercenaries. They'd take most any job to help keep their ship flying, ranging from train robbery to smuggling. If you haven't seen it yet, you'll have to find either the dvds or a download. There are 14 episodes and a movie called 'Serenity', as well as a comic now I believe.
I personally loved the show. Each character had some sort of back story and a unique personality. Plus I do like that they kept with having no sound in space (filled in by music so that it won't be boring). I'd recommend it to anybody who likes the sci-fi genre.

I see Firefly as a show that they could easily animate and have a large fan base following.

the show was a bit of a hit but the prob was as is for many FOX shows is that FOX screwed it up by playing the eps out of order and putting it in a time slot that got preempted by sports and things so they wrecked it without giving it a chance.
You can still see all the eps online if you look for it and there is a movie.. talk of a sequel is just that... nothing in the works...

If you dont know.. there are 2 3pt comic series out there to kinda help tie up some story and gap before the movie.
There is also this thing...
http://www.session416.com/
Which is a series of interviews with River Tam at the "academy" before she gets rescued.
This was a viral marketing thing done before the movie release.

Also there is a novel written by Stephen Brust that probably due to FOX being @sses and not letting go of the rights never got to be published... so you can get it online for free here:

I do not know a lot about Firefly...  actually only got introduced to it over the summer and I am just now watching eps and stuff... I haven't read the comics yet, or the book, but I plan to.
It is a rather catchy show... sci-fi western... reminds me of some Heinlein stories about colonizing and how it is more like the westward expansion in the US.

So no spoilers now...k?

This is the only non-anime tv series I have ever purchased(and the movie, of course), and it is SO worth it, and you are exactly right Ember, in that Fox TOTALLY fubar'd it. To ANYONE who has even a passing interest in sci fi, this is steller (ha, i didn't mean to pun, but it works) and so worth whatever trouble you have to go through to see it. I am SO on that book Ember, thanks!

I started to get into the show and just like so many of my other favorites it was taken from me before something could blossom. Though it did remind me a lot of a crossover of Trigun, Outlaw Star, and Cowboy Bebop. Not that bad but it just struck me as such. Really liked that opening theme song too it's still stuck in my head to this day.

This'll do...for now.

I recently watched the entire season. (Thanks to my local library.) Absolutely loved every single minute of it. I only wish it lasted longer. Totally going to buy the series when my money gets around to letting me. I agree with the Trigun/Cowboy Bebop/Outlaw Star feel. That's part of why I loved it.. I love those three shows.

My mother called it Amish In Space, but me and my dad worshiped it when it came on -- and then we bought the DVD's when they came out.

That show could have gone places, but fox just screwed it over...
